As the new year begins
2025: Challenges and Disappointments in Combating Climate…

In May 2017, at the Milan headquarters of the association Foreste per Sempre OdV, a unique initiative took shape in partnership with the inmates of San Vittore prison. This project drew inspiration from Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’.
The concept emerges following the Pope’s visit to the prison, a powerful encounter that profoundly touched the inmates through the compassion and depth of his message.
At the project’s conclusion, a certificate was thoughtfully created, signed by all participants, and sent to Pope Francis as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude and reflection.

Pope Francis: A Prophetic Voice for Nature and Peace
In 2025, the United Nations unveiled the groundbreaking Peace with Nature initiative, a moment that underscored Pope Francis’s profound influence. Throughout this period, the Pontiff emerged as a powerful moral and spiritual leader, championing environmental justice by uniting respect for creation with the pursuit of peace and the defense of human dignity.
In the 2015 encyclical Laudato si’, he delivered a compelling appeal to protect our “common home,” highlighting the urgent need to address environmental destruction and its profound social impacts, particularly on the most vulnerable. Building on this message, the 2023 document Laudate Deum amplified his call, condemning the lack of action against the climate crisis and urging decisive measures from governments, organizations, and individuals alike.
Pope Francis described nature not merely as an environment to safeguard but as a vital, living part of creation that deserves to be treasured with care and reverence. He frequently underscores that genuine harmony among humanity is impossible without fostering harmony with the Earth.
Throughout his pontificate, he exemplified a true man of peace: denouncing all forms of war, fostering dialogue between cultures and faiths, and embracing a humble way of life, always standing in solidarity with the marginalized and those on society’s fringes.
Through his testimony, Pope Francis has imparted a valuable legacy: he has shown us that nurturing nature is an essential step toward fostering peace. He reminds us that only by embracing a deeper sense of unity—among humanity, the environment, and spirituality—can we aspire to create a more just and harmonious future for everyone.
